CENTRAL SCOTLAND MSP WELCOMES THE RETENTION OF THE 904 BUS SERVICE
Central Scotland MSP John Wilson has welcomed the news that the 904 bus service between Lanarkshire and East Kilbride shall be retained. This follows a recent acknowledgement by Citylink that the service, which was due to be removed on 5th October 2009, shall continue unchanged.
The 904 bus route provides a much needed service connection to Scotland’s capital city to commuters throughout Lanarkshire. The operation of the 904 bus shall now continue to provide an important public transport connection to the areas of East Kilbride, Hamilton, Motherwell, Airdrie and Harthill.
Citylink had previously cited economic reasons for the removal of this service.
Commenting on this success story, John Wilson MSP said ‘this is a victory for ‘people power’. I am glad that the constituents who contacted me are re-assured by the fact that SPT has agreed to provide £25,000 to cover Citylink’s losses for the next year’.
‘Commuters who rely on this bus service do so for financial reasons and I am pleased that people no longer have to consider their employment options due to travel constraints which would have been suffered had the 904 bus service been withdrawn as originally planned. It is crucial that during this difficult economic period that barriers are not put in the way of employment’
‘I am glad that people’s voices have been heard on this matter and did not merely accept the original decision to withdraw the service’.
