MSP SEEKS ASSURANCES FOR THE RETENTION OF THE SCOTTISH AGRICULTURAL WAGES BOARD

SNP MSP John Wilson has today welcomed the announcement of the retention of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board by Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment.

The retention of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board comes after a wide ranging consultation launched by the Scottish Government in June 2008. This will provide pay and conditions protection for lower paid workers and safeguard overtime rates of pay.

Mr Wilson sought assurances from the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment that the role and remit of the board will be retained.

The Scottish Agricultural Wages Board is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body established under the Agricultural Wages (Scotland) Act 1949. It is responsible for setting minimum rates of pay and other conditions for agricultural workers throughout Scotland.
