MSP CALLS ON CITYLINK TO RETAIN SERVICE
SNP MSP John Wilson has called upon Citylink to retain the 904 bus service which travels from East Kilbride to Edinburgh after notification that the service is due to cease on October 5th 2009.
At present, the operation of the 904 bus provides an important public transport connection to the areas of East Kilbride, Hamilton, Motherwell, Airdrie and Harthill. Passengers have recently been notified that the service, which operates twice daily, Monday to Friday, shall be withdrawn on October 5th.
John Wilson MSP has written to Citylink to call for them to reconsider the withdrawal of the 904 Citylink bus service which serves as a vital link for people living in the Lanarkshire area and which offers one of only a few public transport routes operating between Lanarkshire and Edinburgh.
Mr Wilson said: ‘I am concerned that the removal of the 904 bus service, which provides a crucial connection between Lanarkshire and Scotland’s capital city, will have a detrimental affect on those who rely on this service to commute to work or people wishing to travel for reasons of tourism.’
‘The 904 service provides an important public transport link through several areas which already suffer from high levels of unemployment and in withdrawing this valuable service the opportunity for people to work in Scotland’s capital city will be severely reduced.’
‘Many of the passengers who rely on this bus service do so on the basis of cost and to subject them to travel by any other means may have a detrimental affect on income levels and result in them having to give up employment. This would add to the burden of those people who are already suffering financially during this difficult economic climate.’
